1. Circus in Siouxland
The 68th annual Abu Bekr Shrine Circus has returned to Sioux City. This fun-filled show full of astonishing performers, stunts and animals is sticking around our city until Sunday (April 15) at the Tyson Events Center. Showtimes are 11:30 a.m. Thursday and Friday (April 12-13); 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday (April 14); 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Sunday (April 15).
2. The preacher against the stargazers
Huh? What the hell does that title refer to? The BAND6k battle of the bands, of course. The second week of quarterfinal rounds features the hip-hop artist Rev against the indie rock band Artificial Stars. See which act will move on to the next round 8 p.m. Thursday (April 12) at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Sioux City.
3. A Decade of Draft
I wish I could take the credit for that awesome name. But I can't. We guess it probably came from one of them Premium Draft boys who will be celebrating the band's 10-year anniversary. Can you believe it? Time sure does fly. See Premium Draft reunited at 9 p.m. Saturday (April 14) at The Marquee.
4. Tribute to Petty
It's been half a year since Tom Petty died. His music is all that most of us have to remember him by. But thanks to tribute bands like Southern Accents, the music of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers has a chance to expand beyond that of a vinyl record or MP3 file. See the show 8 p.m. Saturday (April 14) at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Sioux City.
5. Broadway support
What better way to raise money for the Sanford Center than with a fundraiser full of great music performers. Head on over to the Sioux City Orpheum Theatre to see singers like David Young, Sarah Holman, Scott Kruse, Steve Schager, Jennifer Parra, Hannah Lambertz, Sally Sams, Morgan Darrow, Holland Larned and Joey Hartshorn perform songs from famous Broadway productions like "Hamilton" and "Dear Evan Hansen." Admission is free. Donations encouraged. Social hour begins at 5 p.m. Friday (April 13) at the Orpheum, followed by the musical performances.
6. Can I have some more?
The Akron Community Theatre has been tasked with producing the timeless classic "Oliver!" Showtimes begin at 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday (April 12-14) and 2 p.m. Sunday (April 15) at the historic Akron Opera House. Call 712-568-2614 to make your reservations.
