AMES, Iowa – August 15, 2026 – If you drive on eastbound Interstate 80 between the Northeast Mixmaster and U.S. 65 you need to be aware of an overnight road closure that may slow down your trip, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s District 1 office.
In order to perform emergency pothole repair work on I-80, the following closure is planned:
Eastbound I-80 will be closed to traffic beginning on Sunday, August 16. The ramps will be closed at 9 p.m. and the interstate will close at 10 p.m. The closure is expected to last until 5 a.m. on August 17.
Please use the detour shown here during the closure.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
