JC Roofing & Insulating in South Sioux City is now a certified contractor to install the Malarkey brand of asphalt roofing shingles for residential applications.
Mason Barnett, project manager at JC Roofing & Insulating, said their company has been installing Malarkey residential shingles for the past year and has recently become a certified contractor. They are now the only certified Malarkey contractor in the Sioux City metro area.
Barnett said they chose to install Malarkey residential shingles because they are able to retain the protective granules after multiple impacts from hail. Keeping the granules on the shingle equates to a longer life for the roof.
“A lot of the products we install are impact-resistant shingles,” he said. “Malarkey was the first manufacturer to use SBS (Styrene Butadiene Styrene) in a roofing shingle, a type of material that gives the asphalt a rubber-like property, and provides a lot better flexibility.”

SBS has been around a while but has been used primarily for commercial roofing applications. Malarkey took this technology from the commercial end and incorporated it into their residential shingle to create a better material with the release of the first SBS shingle in 1986.
Since 1986, Malarkey has been manufacturing aesthetically pleasing polymer modified shingles to meet challenging environments.
The Malarkey lineup features Designer, Laminated Architectural, Solar Reflective and 3-Tab shingles.
The Windsor® designer shingle line features a unique open-tab design for the distinctive look of a traditional cedar shake roof. The elegant, heavyweight shingles offer high performance impact resistance and protection from algae staining.
The Legacy®, Vista™ and Highlander® architectural shingle lines are designed to give a dimensional appearance on the roof. These products offer a range of options providing impact resistance and protection from algae staining. The Vista™ AR incorporates Nexgen™ polymer modified asphalt technology, which provides resilient Class 3 roofing shingle protection.
The Ecoasis™ line of Solar Reflective shingles features specially engineered roofing granules that reflect solar rays away from the roof, which may reduce the amount of heat entering your home. This product line offers both architectural and designer shingle styles with a range of options providing impact resistance and protection from algae staining.
The Alaskan® and Dura-Seal™ 3-tab shingle lines are designed for a traditional roofing shingle style. These products offer a range of options providing impact resistance and protection from algae staining.
The Alaskan, Ecoasis Premium, Legacy and Windsor shingles incorporate Flexor™ SBS polymer modified asphalt technology. These shingles are engineered to add flexibility and granule adhesion for a more resilient roof. Flexor™ polymer modified asphalt technology provides superior Class 4 roofing shingle protection, which is the highest rating possible.
In addition to being impact-resistant and flexible, Malarkey shingles are pleasing to the eye and offer a unique color selection featuring colors specific to them.
