SHELDON, Iowa | With its Sioux City expansion nearly complete, Ziegler Cat is expecting to open its newest full-service facility in Sheldon in April or May.
Ziegler's Sioux City facility, at 5300 Harbor Drive, recently added 19,000 square feet of shop space and a 5,000-square-foot warehouse, bringing the total square footage of the building to 54,000. The facility employs more than 40 people, and Ziegler has plans to hire 10 to 20 more in Sioux City in the next few years, Ziegler President William L Hoeft said recently.
The Sheldon building is approximately 26,400 square feet on 21 acres, with about half the space in shop area, a 9,000-square-foot warehouse, and about 4,400 square feet of office and lobby area. It is the first use of the city's new Crossroads Industrial Park, south and east of U.S. Highway 18 and Iowa Highway 60.
The site was selected after an analysis of Ziegler's current and potential customer base was compared to its existing locations, Hoeft said.
Ziegler also has facilities in Mason City and Fort Dodge. "Sheldon was the perfect location for us. We're thrilled with the land that was available," Hoeft said.
Sheldon Economic Development Director Mark Gaul said the community "is excited to have Ziegler Cat locate in Sheldon. To have a recognized name like Ziegler to bring new jobs and development to our industrial park is exciting, and will help us to market the remaining 45 acres to other users."
Ziegler expects 18-25 employees to work in the Sheldon location. Some of those are already in the area in sales and technical support situations, Hoeft said.
Ziegler sells and services Caterpillar construction equipment, including compact, mid-size and heavy equipment, along with rental tools and equipment. Ziegler also offers new and used agricultural equipment.
Founded by William H. Ziegler in 1914, Ziegler Cat is one of the largest Caterpillar dealers in the country. The family-owned business employs more than 1,400 people at 27 other locations in Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Missouri.
