SHELDON, Iowa - Sheldon is getting the best of both worlds - a
new outdoor pool that replaces the community's aged indoor pool and
a new indoor pool through a partnership with the soon-to-be-opened
Holiday Inn Express that is located adjacent to the new junction of
Highways 60 and 18 on the east edge of the city.
Sheldon recreation director Derrick Tripp says the new $3.1
million outdoor pool will feature a diving board, waterslide and a
deep plunge area, made possible in part by a $100,000 Vision Iowa
grant.
The new indoor pool is a partnership between the City of Sheldon
and the soon-to-be-opened Holiday Inn Express which increased the
size of what would have been a relatively small motel pool to a
four-lane lap pool, for use by Sheldon residents, says development
director Mark Gaul.
That partnership gave Holiday Inn Express owner Charles Hayes of
Fargo, N.D., $800,000 in upfront tax incentive financing, Gaul
explains.
