Even though the members of the three-piece, Sioux City-based band call themselves Foxpelt, they would never actually hurt a fox.
"No way, we love animals too much," Kolby Nibbelink said. "We called our debut CD 'Animal Control.' I don't think it was a conscious decision, but a lot of our music revolves around animals.
Nibbelink, along with bandmates Tristan Perez and Kara Howard, started Foxpelt in late 2024.
"Our sound is very much alt rock and indie rock," Nibbelink explained.
"But with punk and emo thrown in for good measure," Perez added.
Foxpelt will be one of the bands performing on Saturday in the Park's Abe Stage July 4.
"When I got the call saying we made the cut, I couldn't believe it," Nibbelink said. "Being at Saturday in the Park is gonna be huge."
The Sioux City-based alternative rock band Foxpelt, whose members include, from top to bottom, Tristan Lopez, Kolby Nibbelink and Kara Howard, will play Saturday in the Park's Abe Stage on July 4.

To be fair, Foxpelt has been on the road pretty consistently over the past 18 months or so.
"We've developed a fanbase because we hit Sioux City, Sioux Falls and Lincoln on a regular rotation," Nibbelink said, noting Foxpelt traditionally plays bars or coffeehouses. "I think we'll expand to include more towns."
"I do enjoy playing bars because they have a fun vibe," Perez, a fan of the band Modern Baseball, explained. "But coffeehouses are great because they're more intimate and you can actually interact with the audience more."
"That's actually a concern for me," Nibbeliink, a classic rock fan, noted. "We're used to doing smaller shows and not Grandview Park. We'll have to go bigger and seriously up our banter game."
"We banter alright," Perez said. "It shouldn't be an issue,"
For Howard, a fan of everything from Green Day to Rage Against the Machine, said she doesn't know what to expect at Saturday in the Park.
"Believe it or not, I've never been to Saturday in the Park before in my life," she said.
Wait, Howard is not only a first-time SITP performer, she will also be a first-time SITP attendee?
