SIOUX CITY -- In honor of America's 250th anniversary, Sioux City's riverfront will host an Independence Day Parade, beginning at 6 p.m. July 3.
The parade, which will start at the Anderson Dance Pavilion and end at the Chris Larsen Yoga Lawn, will serve as an opening act for the 36th annual Saturday in the Park, which begins at noon July 4 at Grandview Park.
The America 250 parade is a successor to the traditional Mardi Gras-themed Big parade, which also proceeded Saturday in the Park. Like the Mardi Gras parade, entrants this year will toss tens of thousands of beads into the crowds lining the streets.
The parade is one of a number of special events taking place in Sioux City to celebrate America's 250th birthday. For instance, Chicago powerhouse blues singer Joanne Connor is slated to perform a 7 p.m. July 3rd concert at Fourth & Virginia Streets as part of the Downtown Live summer outdoor concert series.
