SIOUX CITY | After buying the former Flood Music building in downtown Sioux City five years ago, Jeana Goosmann liked that the three-story building contained plenty of room for her law firm to expand into.
"This will enable us to continue to expand and grow, which I do anticipate in the future," Goosmann said in 2011 while waiting for renovations to be completed.
That expansion has begun.
In June, Goosmann Law Firm filled up five new offices and work areas on the newly rehabilitated second floor of its office at 410 Fifth St., giving the growing firm some much-needed room.
"We are growing rapidly, and we don't have any plans to slow down," said Kris Craighead, law firm administrator.
The firm moved into the building's main floor in March 2012. In time, that just wasn't enough room, Craighead said. Prior to the second-floor renovation, attorneys were sharing the first-floor offices or using conference rooms.
Since starting her firm in 2009, Goosmann has grown quickly in Sioux City and has added offices in Sioux Falls and Spencer, Iowa. The Sioux City office is home to six attorneys and 10 staff members. Sioux Falls has three attorneys and one paralegal. The Spencer office is home to one attorney and one paralegal. The general-practice firm focuses heavily on business law and does a little of everything but criminal and bankruptcy law, Craighead said.
Craighead said the office renovations in Sioux City mix old and new. The second floor was gutted, and some of the original wooden beams were left exposed to give office space that historic feel. Modern furnishings were used throughout.
The firm's restored building fits in with other older buildings given new life on Pearl Street and Historic Fourth Street nearby.
"We feel very fortunate to be located in downtown Sioux City," Craighead said. "People have the desire to work in downtown Sioux City again."
The location is near both the county and federal courthouses, plus it's near hotels for out-of-town clients.
And it's got a third floor that remains empty, for now. There are always plans to keep growing.
"We're looking forward to continuing our growth," Craighead said.
