NORTH SIOUX CITY | Alorica added 75 jobs at its North Sioux City call center last fall after the provider of outsourced customer service landed a new client.
Most of the new employees are managing inbound calls, providing mortgage concierge services for a large U.S. bank. Citing a confidentiality agreement, Alorica officials declined to identify the financial institution, other than to say it is one of the industry's largest, with more than 51 million customers.
Site director Mike Freeman said the inbound agents are the first point of contact for customers considering a mortgage for a new home.
"They're going to make the first impression and help those customers with making one of the most important decisions in their lifetime," Freeman told more than 70 people at an Aug. 28 news conference where he joined several local leaders to announce the expansion. The audience also included a large contingent of Alorica employees.
The North Sioux City call center, which opened in 2006 in one of the black-and-white cow spotted building on the former Gateway campus, currently employs about 650 workers, who also handle contract calls for a telecommunications company.
Freeman said the center's performance over the last seven years helped Alorica land the new contract.
"Our team has proven time and again we deliver on results and we deliver an unmatched customer experience," he said.
Hiring related to the center's new financial services line began in September, with a week of paid training.
"We've done a lot of work getting the new client up and running," Freeman said. "We're very pleased with the progress there."
The jobs start at $9 per hour. Some management and support position also were added to support the new project.
Freeman said the local center also continues to hire workers for its telecommunications client.
"We are looking for good people," he said. "If we had another 100 to 200, we certainly could accommodate that fairly easily.
Alorica, headquartered in Irvine, Calif., contracts with a number of Fortune 1000 companies. The firm employs more than 20,000 in 40 domestic, near short and offshore customer management centers.
