VERMILLION, S.D. – Campus living isn’t supposed to be sweet for
college students or is it?
Students at The University of South Dakota are enjoying the
“suite life” thanks to the opening of Coyote Village last fall.
Coyote Village is The U’s new suite and apartment-style residence
hall complex, located just south of the DakotaDome.
“Coyote Village is great addition to the USD campus providing
our students with their own personal space in a community
atmosphere,” stated James L. Parker, dean of students at USD. “We
are excited about this new facility and wheat it means to our
students in terms of giving them resources to help them pursue
their academic and personal goals.”
Currently, the new residence hall is open to USD juniors,
seniors and graduate students with sophomores placed on a waiting
list. Students began moving in to the $26.8 million, 195,708
square-foot residence hall last August, about a few weeks before
the start of fall classes.
Developed by Ambling University Development Group, Coyote
Village has 175 units with 550 beds, including two- and
four-bedroom options for students. Each fully furnished unit also
has 42-inch HD televisions and hardwired Internet access to each
single-occupied bedroom while wireless Internet access is available
throughout the building.
Additional amenities include a 15-seat theater room complete
with a 110-inch screen and surround sound system; a gaming room
complete with Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii gaming systems; a
business center; a central laundry facility; a convenience store;
and multiple lounge areas for students. Apartment units feature
full kitchens with refrigerators, a microwave, range stove and a
sink while super suite units are equipped with kitchenettes,
including full-sized refrigerators, a microwave and a sink. The
lobby area, complete with a fireplace, is a great gathering area
for students leading into a full-sized kitchen area on the main
floor that also features a pool table and dining area.
“We are excited about providing our students with quality,
state-of-the-art housing facilities, and Coyote Village embodies
everything that our students need,” noted Jeff Baylor, vice
president of marketing, enrollment and student services at USD.
“Not only does Coyote Village feature living preferences favored by
students, “It’s a premiere location, next to the DakotaDome and
just across the street from the new Wellness Center. It’s also
within walking distance of the entire campus.”
