SIOUX CITY - A desire to stay centrally located and accessible
for their patients.
That was why pediatrician Ray Sturdevant wanted to keep Prairie
Pediatrics & Adolescent Clinic in Sioux City rather than
relocating to Dakota Dunes.
"We needed more space yet we didn't want our move to become a
hardship to either our patients or their parents," he
explained.
In July 2008, Prairie Pediatrics moved from its former location
on the St. Luke's Regional Medical Center campus to its current
location, less than 20 blocks away, in the Midtown Mercy Medical
Clinic at 1125 Pierce St.
The new facility is an 11,500-square foot, two-level building
that's almost twice the size of the clinic's former 5,900 square
foot space.
Patient and administrative offices are on the first floor, while
facilities for staff members, including a lunchroom and computer
area, occupy the second floor.
"This has been a great move for us," Sturdevant said. "The
majority of our patients live in Sioux City and we want to continue
to serve that majority."
Sturdevant said the new location has received positive feedback
from both his patients and his staff.
"We have more breathing room," he said, "and still have space to
grow."
Office manager Darlene Sullivan agrees, crediting Marty
Dougherty and Chris Myres of the City of Sioux City's Economic
Development staff, with their assistance in keeping the clinic in
the city.
"Their help was invaluable to us," she said.
Although not officially affiliated with Mercy Medical Center or
St. Luke's, Salmon said being close to both Sioux City hospitals is
a major reason why she's glad the clinic remained in town.
"Being in close proximity of both hospitals certainly is a plus
for the practice in the event of emergency," she said.
Prairie Pediatric's Morningside location at 2534 Glenn Ave. has
not moved and its operations have not changed.
