PROGRESS: Construction rolls ahead at Discount Tire site

The national automotive chain plans to open the 7,000-square-foot tire business in early April, according to spokeswoman Sarah Broyles. 

Broyles said the easily visible location along the bustling Hamilton Boulevard corridor was key in picking the spot. 

"We've seen a lot of the clips showing the expansion of Hamilton Boulevard and a lot of the new business opportunities happening," Broyles said. 

Once opened, the store is expected to employ between 15 and 20 full- and part-time employees. It will include a spacious showroom and customer waiting area and a selection of tires ranging from name brands to Discount Tire's own line.

The store will offer free tread wear and air pressure checks, as well as a wide selection of tire and automotive services, Broyles said.

The Scottsdale, Arizona-based company currently operates more than 900 locations across the United States.

Broyles said Discount Tire operates eight locations in Iowa. The Sioux City store is part of a company push to expand across the state. Plans are in the works to erect a handful of other locations through 2017 and 2018 including shops in Clive, Des Moines and Cedar Rapids, she said. 

Sioux City's Discount Tire location, currently marked by a semi-completed building with signage along a fence out front, will be across the street from Qdoba and Starbucks and directly south of the Hamilton Heights plaza, which houses a Jimmy John's, Papa John's and Panchero's.
