SIOUX CITY | A 24/7 fitness club opened on Jan. 8 in Sioux City, which brought another option for locals to be active and fit.
Planet Fitness, at 6001 Gordon Drive, celebrated the opening at its 25,000-square-foot gym. The facility is the Newington, N.H., based company's first entry in metro Sioux City.
"It has been absolutely amazing," said Megan Morris, director of marking for Planet Fitness Omaha, which owns the Sioux City location. "We've grown faster than we've ever thought we'd be able to."
The gym features more than 90 cardio machines including treadmills, stationary bikes and elliptical machines. Gym membership is $10 per month.
The gym also features a premium membership for $19.99, which includes free tanning, guest privileges, hydro massage, use of massage chairs and discounted cooler drinks.
As of February, Morris said the Sioux City location had more than 4,000 members, which she expected to continue to grow.
"It's really been great," she said. "We're definitely getting new members every day. That momentum has not stopped."
Planet Fitness has more than five million members and over 1,000 facilities nationwide.
The Sioux City location was formerly occupied by Bomgaars. United Rentals also is a tenant in the building.
In January, the company's Omaha chief operating officer, Michael Alberts, said in a statement: “We are so excited to expand into the Sioux City community and welcome new members to our newest location.”
Morris added the Sioux City location is currently looking for opportunities to team up with or sponsor events with other organizations in the city.
"It's all about being a part of the community for us," she said. "We're looking to get more involved in the community as time goes on."
