SIOUX CITY | With the opening of Bed Bath & Beyond at Sunnybrook Plaza, at the intersection of Sunnybrook Drive and Sergeant Road, many Siouxlanders now have the opportunity to pick up a wide variety of home supplies.
The 20,000-square-foot shop occupies a bay of a 60,000-square-foot retail center, just east of Greatland Target. The chain, which sells a wide variety of domestic merchandise and home furnishings, has more than 1,000 stores in 50 states.
Before Sioux City's store opened, the nearest locations were in Sioux Falls and Omaha.
In a previous statement, Leah Drill, a spokeswoman for Bed Bath & Beyond, highlighted the company's intent to expand into metro Sioux City.
Drill told the Journal in an email: "As we continue to grow and open stores, we are always looking for new locations where we will be able to offer our new customers the broad assortment and outstanding customer service that is Bed Bath & Beyond. Sioux City is such a location and we are very excited to be coming there."
Sunnybrook Plaza was formed in 2002. The district is a large, growing commercial and retail development with access from the U.S. Highway 20 bypass. In addition to Greatland Target, it's anchored by Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse.
Bed Bath & Beyond joined Ulta Beauty and Marshalls as the three tenants in the first of two buildings in the Sunnybrook Plaza complex. Bed Bath & Beyond was the first confirmed tenant for the retail development built on a 5.6-acre site near the Greatland Target parking lot.
Founded in 1971, Bed Bath & Beyond Inc. and its subsidiaries operate more than 1,400 stores under Bed Bath & Beyond and other names. Most of the stores range in size from 15,000 to 50,000 square feet, with some exceeding 80,000 square feet, according to the company's website.
