SIOUX CITY | The Hampton Inn & Suites By Hilton opened in late 2015, becoming the newest hotel in Sioux City and the first in the growing Sunnybrook Plaza area.
The 91-unit hotel opened five days before Christmas at 5555 Sergeant Road, just south of Greatland Target and near a host of businesses, with strong visibility from the U.S. Highway 20/75 bypass.
"We are the newest hotel in Sioux City and probably by far the most modern," Hampton Inn General Manager Andrew Gross said.
Gross said the area was picked due to proximity to the booming Sunnybrook area and its proximity to Sioux Gateway Airport a few miles away.
"The owners looked for something that would be convenient. It really is very convenient. ... Whether you are traveling for business or leisure, you can really take advantage of the beautiful views from our hotel, with us being close to many of the city's attractions," Gross said.

He added, "We're nestled among retail and restaurants all around us. It is just going to be very convenient for the people who choose to stay with us, they will have those things just minutes away from them. ... We picked quite nicely here and we look really good in the landscape."
Shailesh Patel is the local franchisee for the national chain. Patel has owned the land since 2007. At that time, he had intended to build a hotel there, but the national recession that hit later that year delayed plans.
The hotel is just about to launch advertising, but in spite of that lack of marketing had a roughly 50-percent occupancy rate the first weeks of being open. Gross said that occupancy ramped up with larger bookings in late February. A grand opening will follow later this spring.
"It has been going very well. For not having done advertising that we are open, we have done very well," Gross said.
Fifty of the 91 rooms are standard with either king or two queen beds, 27 are much-larger studio suites and the rest have king beds and sofas. Gross raved about the amenities in the Hampton Inn, which include a pool with waterslide, a 24-hour business center holding many elements business patrons want, a fitness center and hot breakfast offerings.
The rooms are outfitted with LCD televisions, coffee makers and other items.
Roughly half of the 30 Hampton Inn & Suites employees are full-time workers.
Patel's group operates around a dozen other hotel properties in Iowa, South Dakota and Minnesota, including the 67-room Hampton Inn at 101 S. Sodrac Drive in North Sioux City.
