SIOUX CITY | The SoHo Kitchen & Bar brings a touch of New York City to Historic Fourth Street in downtown Sioux City.
The eatery, which opened Dec. 2, 2011, is going strong and looking to expand, said chef-owner Julie Schoenherr.
“Things are going wonderful,” she said.
The restaurant and bar at 1024 Historic Fourth St. is named after the SoHo neighborhood in Manhattan, an area of New York City Schoenherr enjoys.
Located in what was formerly Sweet Fanny’s, SoHo Kitchen & Bar features fresh American cuisine. And, though it already has 90 craft beers, the business plans to expand the bar to have 20 more specialty beers on tap.
When the update is completed, SoHo will have a total of 40 craft beers on tap. For Schoenherr, it’s all about surpassing people’s expectations. The project is set to be completed in March.
“I want to be able to have what they’re looking for and a lot of times what they don’t know they’re looking for,” she said.
Food-wise, Schoenherr says she’s sticking to her plan: fresh ingredients, never-frozen meat she cuts herself and homemade recipes.
She considers the food updated American cuisine: American favorites with a “SoHo twist.” The restaurant strives to please people who are looking for quality.
“People who are interested in having good quality food and who really enjoy good quality service,” Schoenherr said.
In 2013, SoHo patrons may be able to enjoy a variety food and beer together at craft beer and food tastings. The plans are still in the works, but Schoenherr says she’d like to focus on regional breweries as well as those from other areas.
“I just love this,” said Schoenherr, who spent 30 years in the banking industry. “I just so enjoy it when the customers come in and I can walk around and talk to them.”
