One of America's "best" is located right here in Siouxland.
St. Luke's Home Care was honored recently as one of the top 100 home health agencies in the nation by Home Health Line, an independent organization that reviewed 7,500 agencies in its selection process.
In determining the nation's best agencies, Home Health Line reviewed quality of care, quality improvement and financial performance. St. Luke's Home Care scored in the 99th percentile in those three areas, an impressive accomplishment when compared to thousands of agencies nationwide.
"While it is an honor to receive this recognition, what makes the honor especially significant is that we didn't purchase the award, instead receiving it from an independent organization who based their decision after evaluating thousands of agencies nationwide," said Priscilla Stokes, executive director of St. Luke's Home Care.

With a recent move to its new location at 2905 Hamilton Blvd. in the Marketplace Mall, St. Luke's Home Care continues to offer a variety of critical services to the Siouxland community. Approximately 300 patients are served through Lifeline, emergency device equipment enabling them to be safe at home. Another 600 patients benefit from St. Luke's home health services, infusion therapy and disease management programs including the SKIP program.
A free service, the SKIP program is geared toward helping people with chronic diseases such as chronic heart failure and emphysema. Once a patient is referred to the program, the individual receives assistance in managing their health condition through teaching, support and lifestyle modifications. In addition, St. Luke's nursing staff provides on-site monitoring of a patient's blood pressure, vital signs, blood oxygen levels and weight. By detecting complications early, the program hopes to prevent unnecessary hospital visits and re-hospitalizations.
At its Marketplace Mall location, St. Luke's Home Care also will continue to offer a large variety of medical equipment as well as a new Mastectomy Center managed by a trained mastectomy specialist.
"We partner with patients to lead them on the right path for better, long-term health outcomes. Our recognition from Home Health Line as one of the top 100 agencies is only the beginning. The honor reaffirms the care and services we're already providing, but it doesn't mean our work stops. The distinction means we need to be even more focused on making additional enhancements to improve the lives of people in the community," Stokes noted.
Peter Thoreen, president and CEO of St. Luke's Health System, said the Home Health Line recognition distinguishes St. Luke's Home Care from other, similar agencies.
"St. Luke's staff has dedicated their lives to providing the community with extraordinary home health services," Thoreen added. "We are very pleased to receive recognition for our efforts to enhance Siouxland healthcare."
