Hosted in partnership with the American Red Cross at the Public Health building, the drive collected 32 units of blood, surpassing the goal of 24 units. The Red Cross was also excited to see 30 percent of the donors were first-time blood donors. Those 32 units of blood have the potential to impact up to 96 lives.

The successful drive comes at an important time as the American Red Cross is currently navigating a national blood crisis for only the second time in history, making every donation especially valuable.
Following the success of July's event, Pottawattamie County and the American Red Cross have scheduled additional community blood drives to provide residents with regular opportunities to donate close to home.
The next blood drive will be held Tuesday, September 23, at the Public Health building. Appointments are available now and can be reserved through the American Red Cross.
Individuals who are unable to attend the September blood drive are encouraged to find another upcoming blood drive in the area. Healthy donors are generally eligible to give whole blood every 56 days, and consistent donations help ensure lifesaving blood is available whenever it is needed.
