NORTH SIOUX CITY — Fresh and delicious Mexican food is easy to find in Siouxland; however, the region has also recently become a top producer of frozen south-of-the-border delicacies.
Last April, Red’s All Natural opened its first manufacturing facility in North Sioux City, South Dakota, a venture that has the potential to create up to 70 jobs, according to a former company official.
Based out of Franklin, Tennessee, Red’s produces a lineup of heat-and-serve dishes that includes burritos, bowls, enchiladas and taquitos, some of which are organic, dairy-free and gluten-free, and all of the meat is uses is antibiotic and hormone free.
Rice, beans and all of the sauces found in Red's products are cooked in North Sioux City, and the organic tortillas used in production also will eventually be made in-house.
Red’s opened the 50,000-square-foot plant at 803 Derby Lane just five months after agreeing to move to the site.
The burrito maker’s new facility previously housed Portionables Inc., a division of Sargento Foods. Sargento closed the plant in 2013.
Prior to opening the North Sioux City facility, the company outsourced its production.
Bringing Red’s to Southeast South Dakota community of about 2,500 was an effort led by current and former city and Siouxland officials and outgoing South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard.
“It’s my pleasure to welcome Red’s to North Sioux City,” Daugaard said in a statement.
“Red’s CEO, Mike Adair, made the right choice to establish production capabilities in South Dakota. I am confident our workforce and business climate will help Red’s All Natural achieve even greater success.”
