SIOUX CITY | Last fall saw the opening of a Yankee Candle at Southern Hills Mall, while Scheels All Sports finished its remodeling in September.
The Yankee Candle store, located between Foot Locker and The Children's Place, offers an array of scented candles of different sizes, candle accessories, reed diffusers, scented wall plug-ins, car scents and room sprays.
The company operates more than 500 stores in the U.S., Canada and elsewhere.
Scheels, an outdoor lifestyle and sporting goods store, added 10,000 square feet of retail sales space to its location, making it more than 80,000 square feet in total space.
The store remained open during the renovation, with minimal interference for shoppers. The store-front window display was also updated.
The first Scheels was founded in Sabin, Minn., in 1902. Scheels came to Sioux City in 1977, then relocated in 2003 to Southern Hills Mall.Â
The Sioux City location features boutiques, ranging from running gear to in-fashion sportswear along with hunting and fishing equipment. Golfing, biking, paddling and other sports equipment are available.
Sioux City holds one of 25 stores Scheels operates in 10 states, employing more than 6,000.
Southern Hills Mall also saw Next Dimension, a virtual reality entertainment venue, open next to JC Penney. Equipped with 5-D, 7-D and 12-D technology, the high-definition, interactive simulation rides feature special visual and physical effects that occur in synchronization with the events onscreen, including wind, rain and vibrations.
